News: Supercheap Auto Racing's Ingall Continues With Good Form

Published: Friday, 1st August, 2008

Supercheap Auto Racing's Russell Ingall has continued on with his recent good form, setting the sixth quickest time during practice today for the eighth round of the V8 Supercar Championship at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria.

Ingall and team-mate Paul Morris battled continually changing conditions, from warm winter sun to almost torrential downpours throughout the session.

Ingall's time of 1m 24.1510s was only 0.455s slower than the fastest lap time set by the Toll Holden Racing Team's Garth Tander, while Morris had the 22nd quickest time - the top 22 cars separated by just one second.

Two-time British Touring Car Champion Matt Neal arrived at Winton after the long flight from England just in time for practice.

Neal is joining the team for the upcoming Phillip Island and Supercheap Auto Bathurst enduros and drive the second SCAR Commodore with American NASCAR road racing specialist Boris Said.

The event continues tomorrow with qualifying and Race 1, with the final two races Sunday.

Russell Ingall, #39 Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore VE:

"Sixth quickest is a good start to the weekend, but the most pleasing thing was our wet weather performance - fourth quickest. We seem to have all conditions covered, although we have a little tuning to do for the dry - there wasn't the big gain here with the new tyres like we had at other places. There's also a bit left in me, I dropped a couple tenths and if we pick that up, do a couple things with the car then we'll be up around the mark."

Paul Morris, 67 Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore VE:

"Today was a very hard day trying to get a reading on what the weather was going to do - we really couldn't do much. There's a couple of things we know we can do a lot better with the car and we'll sort them out overnight. The team's doing a great job and we'll continue working towards the enduros.
